Behind a sizzling 46.9-second anchor leg by Obea Moore, Muir’s boys track team broke the national indoor 1,600-meter relay record at the Simplot Games in Pocatello, Idaho, last Saturday. Xavier Savant, Makie Haywood, Shaheed McCullough and Moore ran 3:14.84 to break the record of 3:16.97 set by Muir in 1995. The Mustangs’ sprint medley relay team of Savant, Stewart Holmes, Sultan McCullough and Moore also set a national record with a time of 3:27.80, breaking Muir’s 1995 national mark of 3:27.90. Moore will run in the high school 880 and anchor Muir’s 4 x 160- and 4 x 440-yard relay teams Saturday at the L.A. Invitational indoor track meet at the Sports Arena. . . . Senior Nick Bates scored 20 points and Dion Bailey and Brian Reil each added 17 to lead West Covina to a 66-56 victory over Damien in a boys’ Division I-A second-round playoff game. . . . San Dimas’ boys basketball team moved into the Division III-AA semifinals with a 68-50 victory over Corona del Mar to improve to 27-1. The Saints were led by Corey Smith and Qian Chavez, who combined for 41 points. . . . Erin Brunelle scored two goals to lead Diamond Bar to a 4-0 victory over Cathedral City in a girls’ Division IV soccer playoff match.
