No Keeping Up With Jones, Montclair Prep, 81-68

Anwawn Jones scored 34 points and had 23 rebounds to lead Montclair Prep to an 81-68 victory Friday night over Hesperia Christian in a Division V-AA quarterfinal at Hesperia Christian.

Jones, a senior forward who helped lead the Mounties (24-3) to the State Division V championship last season, also had six blocked shots.

Montclair Prep collected a season-high 69 rebounds.

With the score tied, 35-35, at halftime, Montclair Prep began the third quarter with an 8-0 run and continued to pull away.

Scott Stark added 13 points and 12 rebounds, and Demetris Green added 12 points and 10 rebounds for Montclair Prep.

Akil Anderson added 14 points and five steals for Montclair Prep, Division V-AA runner-up last season before entering the state tournament.

Josh Long scored 29 points to lead Hesperia Christian (19-7), including seven three-point baskets.

Campbell Hall 65, Pasadena Poly 57--Mike Appel and Demetrius Ingram each scored 17 points as host Campbell Hall (17-11) advanced to the Division V-AA semifinals.

Campbell Hall trailed, 26-23, at halftime after being outrebounded, 16-9, but won the battle of the boards in the second half, 16-11.

David Poole kept Pasadena Poly in the game, hitting four three-pointers in a 25-point effort.

Campbell Hall will play Montclair Prep on Tuesday at a site to be determined.

Compton Dominguez 98, Ventura 39--Center Charles Dixon scored 11 points for the Cougars (16-10), and Tim Huer added eight in a Division II-A quarterfinal blowout at Dominguez.

Jason Thomas scored 31 points for the top-seeded Dons (28-2), who outscored Ventura, 35-4, in the first quarter.

Antelope Valley Christian 81, Heritage Christian 57--Antelope Valley Christian improved to 24-0 with a Division V-A quarterfinal victory at Heritage Christian.

Jay Williams scored 19 points and Jim Findlater added 10 for Heritage Christian (18-9).

Verbum Dei 68, Santa Clara 62--The Saints (22-5) were eliminated in a Division IV-A semifinal at Pius X High.
