Whitfield Leads El Modena to Quarterfinal Victory

Kaylee Whitfield scored three goals, including the game-winner with one minute remaining in sudden death, to lead El Modena to a 4-3 victory over Alta Loma in a girls’ Division II quarterfinal soccer game Saturday at Alta Loma High.
El Modena (21-5-2) was down, 2-0, midway through the second half, when the Vanguards scored three goals in 10 minutes to take a 3-2 lead. The lead did not last long as Michelle McConnell recorded her second goal for Alta Loma to make it 3-3.
Goalkeeper Kelly Kersch helped keep El Modena in the game early as she recorded 18 saves. Alta Loma goalkeeper Ashley Davi stopped 14 of 18 shots.
Alta Loma finishes the season 17-5-6. El Modena improves to 21-5-2 and will face Ventura Buena, a 3-1 winner over North Hollywood Harvard Westlake, in the semifinals Tuesday.

Palos Verdes Chadwick 2, Orange Lutheran 1--Ryan Stiles scored his 31st goal of the season on a penalty kick with five minutes remaining, but it came too late to prevent Orange Lutheran (17-4-6) from elimination in the quarterfinals.
