Defending champion San Jose Independence leads with 60 points, followed by Union City James Logan with 54.5 points after Friday’s sessions of the State Wrestling Championships at the University of the Pacific’s Spanos Center.

Santa Ana Calvary Chapel is third with 44.5 and Poway is fourth with 43.5.

Although Independence has advanced three of its wrestlers into the semifinal round and has four wrestlers still in contention, Calvary Chapel has managed to keep all seven of its wrestlers in contention, including two in the semifinals.

For the Eagles, Joe Calavitta (135 pounds) breezed through his matches and will meet Mat Ehn of Clovis in the semifinals. Ty Wilcox, at 152 pounds, also had little trouble, winning his quarterfinal match against Matt Evans of Chico Pleasant Valley, 21-6.
