Wolf Pitches Pepperdine to Conference Victory
Starter Randy Wolf allowed four hits in 7 2/3 innings as the Pepperdine baseball team defeated Loyola Marymount, 7-1, Friday in a West Coast Conference opener at Pepperdine.
Wolf (2-1), a 1994 graduate of El Camino Real High, allowed one earned run. The Waves (8-9) scored three runs in the second inning and four more in the eighth to overwhelm the Lions (3-13).
Cal Lutheran 17, Whittier 5--Eric Buben hit a home run, scored four runs and had four runs batted in to keep the Kingsmen unbeaten in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play. Rich Holmes added four hits.
Eric Kiszczack notched his fourth win for Cal Lutheran (10-3-1, 7-0) and Craig Arnold picked up the save.
UC Riverside 11, The Master’s 7--Jim Young had three hits for the Mustangs (5-9-1) in a nonconference loss to UC Riverside (13-4) at The Master’s. Justin Miller, Jamie Riggio and Dan Prentice each had two hits for Master’s.
SOFTBALL
Cal Lutheran 10-3, Whittier 0-1--Donna Scott had two runs scored and two RBIs as the host Regals swept the Poets in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader. Heather Carey hit two doubles for Cal Lutheran (9-0, 7-0).
Pasadena 5, Pierce 3--Kelly Lovato and Sonja Maldonado each had two hits for the host Brahmas (2-1-1) in the nonconference loss.
WOMEN’S TRACK
Wyoming Invitational--Cal State Northridge junior Beth Burton broke her own school record in the 20-pound weight throw with a winning effort of 58 feet 1/4 inch at the indoor meet in Laramie.
Burton’s mark exceeded the automatic qualifying standard for the NCAA championships.
