Lynch Helps Marina Win Loara Tournament Title

Senior Justin Lynch pitched a two-hitter and struck out 14 as Marina defeated Katella, 6-0, in the championship game of the Loara baseball tournament Saturday at Glover Stadium.

Brandon Schneider had two hits and two runs batted in. Kenny La Point had two hits and an RBI for the Vikings (5-0).

In the Costa Mesa baseball tournament:

Newport Harbor 2, Bolsa Grande 1--Junior Garrett Nuzum (2-0) struck out 12 and walked to lead Newport Harbor in the championship game. Nuzum, a transfer from Corona del Mar, also drove in both runs with a base hit in the fifth inning.

In the Glendora baseball tournament:

Sonora 5, Glendora 1--Ryan Owens hit two home runs for Sonora (3-0-1) in the championship game. Teammates Tony Governale and Jeremy Weinberg each hit a home run as well.

In the Newport Elks baseball tournament:

Capistrano Valley 4, Mater Dei 2--Andy Tuzzolino’s two-run double in the sixth inning gave Capistrano Valley a 3-2 lead and the Cougars held on to win the championship at Irvine’s Windrow Park.

In the Costa Mesa softball tournament:

Century 13, Newport Harbor 0--Dawn Lopez (3-0) pitched a one-hitter, facing the minimum amount of batters, and was five for five at the plate with four runs scored and three RBIs for Century (5-0) in the championship game.
