Irvine Valley Posts First Shutout in Conference Play
Mina Vu pitched a four-hitter as Irvine Valley beat host Orange Coast, 4-0, in an Orange Empire Conference softball game Monday.
It was the first conference shutout in the four-year history of Irvine Valley’s program.
Kathy Turner had three hits and drove in two runs for Irvine Valley (13-12-1, 2-5). Sara Usherwood had two hits and scored a run and Tami Harris had a double and single and also scored a run for Irvine Valley.
In other conference games:
Cypress 5, Saddleback 1--Aimee Weathers had a sacrifice to break a 1-1 tie in the top of the seventh for visiting Cypress (20-8, 6-1). Lisa Delligata had a two-run triple and Sophia Garcia added a run-scoring single to cap the four-run seventh for Cypress.
Fullerton 4, Riverside 0--Lynette Velasquez had single, triple, scored a run and also pitched a four-hit shutout for host Fullerton (18-5, 6-1).
Rancho Santiago 2, Golden West 1 (8)--Samantha White scored on a passed ball in the top of the eighth for visiting Rancho Santiago (16-13-1, 4-3).
In nonleague baseball:
Saddleback 12, Lower Columbia (Wash.) 6--Travares Comeaux and Kevin Brady each had a single, double and home run and drove in two runs for host Saddleback.
In Orange Empire Conference golf:
Saddleback 370, Cuyamaca 407, Rancho Santiago 411, Riverside 419--Lee Kinney and Hans Jones each shot one-over 73 for Saddleback at Tijeras Creek.
