Concordia Picks Cattau to Replace Holl as the AD

Curt Cattau, assistant athletic director at Concordia University, has been promoted to athletic director, the school announced Tuesday.

Cattau, coach of the women’s softball team the past three seasons, replaces Mary Holl, who was named vice president of university services in March. Cattau has been a professor of exercise and sport science at Concordia since 1991.

La Quinta girls’ basketball Coach Joe Stern has resigned, Athletic Director Jim Perry said Tuesday. Perry said Stern expressed a desire to spend more time working toward his bachelor’s degree at Long Beach State.

Stern was a boys’ assistant coach at La Quinta for four years and was the girls’ coach last season. Under Stern, a walk-on coach, the Aztecs were 3-20.

Matthew, the second child of Mater Dei girls’ basketball Coach Mary Hauser, was born at 7:42 a.m. Monday, weighing 7 pounds, 8 ounces.

Hauser, who went into labor Feb. 21, had been taking medication to prevent her from delivering the baby prematurely; Matthew was due April 8.

Ann Meyers Drysdale, former UCLA and Olympic basketball star, will be inducted into the Catholic Youth Organizations Hall of Fame along with former UCLA football coach Terry Donahue in ceremonies April 18 at Les Freres Taix restaurant in Los Angeles.

Meyers, a sportscaster, earned varsity letters in seven sports and graduated from Sonora High in 1974.

Tickets for the event, which will include an auction of sports memorabilia, are $65 per person and seating is limited. Reservations may be made by calling (213) 251-3454.
