Bolsa Grande, Junior
Softball/Pitcher
Bolsa Grande, usually an also-ran in Garden Grove League softball, pulled off a notable upset last week, beating third-ranked Pacifica, 2-1, and Petrie helped make it happen. Petrie scored the tying run in the fourth inning. She also pitched a two-hitter with four strikeouts to out-duel Amanda Freed. “She was making them reach for pitches they normally don’t swing at,” Bolsa Grande assistant Tina Verellen said. “She was really dominating in that game.” Later in the week, Petrie had a three-hitter with eight strikeouts and the Matadors beat La Quinta, 4-1, to remain in first place, the only undefeated league team. In 40 innings of league play, Petrie has given up only two earned runs for a 0.35 ERA.
