It Looks Like a Banner Year for Campbell Hall Volleyball

The big man was down, but the banner likely will still go up.

Fair trade-off for Campbell Hall, which defeated Glendale Adventist, 15-7, 15-13, 15-5, in an Alpha League volleyball match Wednesday night at Campbell Hall.

The Vikings (10-1, 6-0 in league play) all but clinched the Alpha League title, their first in the five-year volleyball history of the league.

“If we continue to play this way, we’re going to get that blue banner up there--league championship,” said Dylan Herrick, who led the Vikings with 18 kills, but wasn’t his usual self until the third game.

Not to worry because Jon Rosenberg and Larry Cole picked up the slack with 11 kills each.

Cole had four kills in the first game and Rosenberg had seven in the second as Campbell Hall grabbed a 2-0 lead.

Without a player over 5 feet 11, Adventist (9-2, 3-2) relied on a scrappy, digging defense that did a decent job.

Offense, however, was a problem.

Duane Tan had nine kills, but no other player had more than five.

The Cougars really stalled in the third game, failing to register a kill until the Vikings had an 8-0 lead.

Herrick had a sizzling third game, adding to the Cougars’ problems.

“He started getting hot and that made the deciding factor,” Adventist Coach Mark Mina said.

Campbell Hall has three more league matches, needing one victory to clinch a share of the title.

“It’s been a long time coming,” said sixth-year Coach Tim Jensen.
