Simi Valley Topples No. 1 Camarillo, 9-8

After starting the Marmonte League baseball season with five consecutive losses, Simi Valley High has turned things around.
In a big way.
Robert Comeau hit a double off the right-center-field fence in the bottom of the seventh Friday at Simi Valley to score Billy Castonguay and give the Pioneers a 9-8 victory over Camarillo, The Times’ top-ranked team in the region.
The Pioneers (10-8-1, 3-5 in league play) have won seven consecutive games, including their last three in league play. Camarillo (16-2, 7-1) had a 15-game winning streak snapped.
Castonguay, who was four for four with a three-run home run, chased Scorpion pitcher Joe Borchard with a one-out single in the seventh. Nathan Kaup relieved and Comeau ended the game on Kaup’s first pitch.
Royal 9, Channel Islands 2--Matt Pitstick went the distance for the Highlanders (18-1, 7-1) in a Marmonte League game at Channel Islands (2-5, 10-10), giving up just two unearned runs on seven hits.
Thousand Oaks 8, Newbury Park 0--Pitcher Ryan Lane threw a complete game, striking out four and walking one in a Marmonte League game at Newbury Park (8-9, 2-6). Ryan Holmes and Mike Lauer each had two hits for the Lancers (13-6, 6-2).
Westlake 7, Agoura 3--The Warriors (8-8, 4-4) broke a 3-3 tie with a two-out, four-run rally in the top of the seventh in a Marmonte League game in Coach Chuck Berrington’s first game since replacing David Wilder, who was fired Thursday.
Alemany 15, Harvard-Westlake 5--Bill Scott was four for four with seven RBIs for the visiting Indians (4-10, 2-4) in a Mission League game. Scott had a three-run homer, a double, two singles and an intentional walk.
Crespi 9, St. Francis 0--Brian Felten needed only 60 pitches and allowed only one runner past first base in a two-hit Mission League victory at Valley College.
Barry Matthews had three hits, including a triple, and an RBI, and Andy Campanella and Rob Hirsh each had two hits and two RBIs for Crespi (14-6, 3-3).
Glendale 2, Pasadena 1--Bryan Chan pitched a one-hitter, struck out seven and walked three for the Dynamiters (12-3, 7-2) in a Pacific League game at Glendale. Chan also had two hits and scored a run and added four stolen bases.
Quartz Hill 19, Ridgecrest Burroughs 2--Bryan Garcia had four hits for the second consecutive game for the Rebels in a Golden League game. Garcia finished with five RBIs and Danny Phillips had a two-run home run for the host Rebels (14-4, 4-0). Garcia (3-0) also struck out 10 in five innings.
Antelope Valley 7, Palmdale 4--Sean Douglass hit two home runs and had five RBIs for the host Antelopes (12-8, 3-1) in a Golden League game.
Burroughs 6, Canyon 2--Wes Hutchison (1-3) worked six innings, scattering five hits and allowing one earned run for host Burroughs (12-7-1, 6-3) in a Foothill League game.
Rio Mesa 5, Santa Barbara 4--David Betancourt’s single to left scored Albert Ambrize with the winning run with two out in the ninth inning of a Channel League game at Rio Mesa (9-6-1, 7-0-1). Adrian Gascon had three hits and Tyrone Nunnery added two for Rio Mesa.
Moorpark 5, Santa Clara 1--Justin Ames threw a four-hitter and struck out seven for the Musketeers (7-8, 4-4) in a Frontier League game at Santa Clara. Ryan Yoshiwara and Zack Greene each had two hits, and Greene added a double and an RBI.
St. Bonaventure 9, Carpinteria 3--Drew Corona homered for visiting St. Bonaventure (13-4, 4-3) in a Tri-Valley League game.
Sylmar 6, Monroe 1--Ralph Velazco had three hits and scored twice as the Spartans earned their sixth consecutive victory in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game at Monroe.
Javier Ruelas allowed four hits and no earned runs with four strikeouts and no walks in six innings. Chris Ruley had two RBIs for Sylmar (15-3, 10-0).
Poly 5, Van Nuys 1--Gustavo Banuelos pitched a complete game and had two hits, including a home run, and three RBIs for the Parrots in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game. Banuelos struck out six and walked three.
Travis McGivern had two hits for Poly.
Robert Daniels had two hits for Van Nuys (2-17, 1-9).
SOFTBALL
Kennedy 15, San Fernando 0--Six players had at least three hits for the visiting Golden Cougars (13-1, 7-0) in a Northwest Valley Conference game. Sandra Durazo pitched a two-hitter, striking out 14 and walking one.
Calabasas 2, Malibu 0--Kelly Sargent pitched a one-hitter and Meredith Eisz drove in both runs for the Coyotes (7-4-1, 6-2) in a Frontier League game.
Rio Mesa 3, Santa Barbara 2--Marcella Ramirez pitched a five-hitter with seven strikeouts, and Jessica Brown had two RBIs for Rio Mesa (11-3, 6-2) in a Channel League game.
Moorpark 7, Santa Clara 1--The Milburn sisters, Tracey and Tina, each hit home runs for the Musketeers (8-5, 7-1) in a Frontier League game at Moorpark. Erin Heinbechner pitched a five-hitter, striking out 11.
BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL
Canoga Park d. Van Nuys, 10-15, 15-8, 15-13, 15-13--Carloes Harper had 13 kills and 18 blocks for the Hunters (9-1, 6-1) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference match at Van Nuys.
Sylmar d. North Hollywood, 15-13, 15-13,15-5--Juan Estrada had 13 kills, 14 digs and three blocks for the Spartans (10-0-, 7-0) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference match at North Hollywood.
Highland d. Palmdale, 10-15, 15-6, 11-15, 15-8, 15-12--The Bulldogs (10-0, 7-0) dropped a game for the first time this season but recovered in the Golden League match at Highland. Tom Haight had 19 kills for Highland.
