Cypress’ Seibel Pitches No-Hitter

Junior Phil Seibel recorded his second no-hitter of the season and sixth-ranked Cypress defeated host Century, 16-0, in Empire League baseball.

Seibel (9-0) struck out 15 and walked two for Cypress (18-3, 10-1), which is in first place.

Seibel was three for three with and drove in three runs. Jason Ball went four for five with four runs scored and Bobby Brito hit his 10th home run, a two-run shot, in the sixth.

In other Empire League games:

El Dorado 6, Katella 4--Dave Myers and Mark Wade had RBI singles in the top of the seventh to give El Dorado (13-9, 8-3) a two-run lead. B.J. Dyer had two hits and three runs scored for the Golden Hawks.

Loara 7, Kennedy 2--C.J. Ferraro had four hits, two RBIs and scored a run for visiting Loara (13-8, 5-6). Kennedy is 10-12, 2-9.

In the Academy League:

Liberty Christian 8, St. Michael’s Prep 4--Sophomore Steve Winters’ sacrifice bunt helped spark a five-run sixth inning for host Liberty Christian (10-5, 4-2).

St. Margaret’s 18, Fairmont 0 (5, mercy)--Thomas Sire had four hits and three RBIs for St. Margaret’s (6-5-1, 4-2).

In the Century League:

Canyon 5, El Modena 1--Troy Mills was three for three with two runs scored and an RBI for Canyon (18-3, 10-1).

Foothill 4, Villa Park 3--Joe Barragan was two for three with one run scored and one RBI for Foothill (14-5, 7-4).

In the Freeway League:

La Habra 6, Troy 1--Shaun Beutner had a hit and two RBIs in his first varsity start for La Habra (5-15, 2-9).

Sonora 15, Buena Park 4--Tony Governale hit two home runs to lead Sonora (17-3-1, 9-2). The Raiders hit five home runs.

Fullerton 7, Sunny Hills 4--Michael Garner’s string of 50 consecutive innings without giving up an earned run was ended by Chris Vlopp’s home run for Sunny Hills. It is the first earned run given up by Garner in league this season for Fullerton (16-4-1, 10-0-1).

In the Garden Grove League:

La Quinta 14, Rancho Alamitos 1--With the victory, ninth-ranked La Quinta posted its 35th consecutive league victory.

Todd Butt went three for three, with four runs scored and an RBI for La Quinta (18-5, 8-0).

Pacifica 3, Garden Grove 0--Matt Fischer used only 70 pitches and gave up six hits and struck out six for host Pacifica (12-8-1, 7-2). Fischer walked one and induced 12 ground outs.

Bolsa Grande 8, Santiago 1--Winning pitcher Dennis Mollison gave up five hits, struck out nine and walked three, Adam Corona had three hits, Isaac Gonzalez had two hits and two RBIs for visiting Bolsa Grande (15-4-1, 7-2).

In the Golden West League:

Ocean View 6, Santa Ana 5--Jeff Wilkinson hit a two-out, game-winning double in the bottom of the sixth for Ocean View (10-12, 6-5). Santa Ana is 8-13, 4-7.

Servite 7, Saddleback 2--Ryan Brown was three for four with three doubles for Servite (15-7, 8-3). Teammate Ryan Garko hit two doubles for the Friars.

In the Olympic League:

Orange Lutheran 15, Whittier Christian 1--Che Holloway four hits, including his fourth home run, and six RBIs and Dan Young three hits, including his third home run, and two RBIs for host Orange Lutheran (8-11, 5-6).

Calvary Chapel 7, Brethren Christian 1--Josh Stewart gave up four hits, no earned runs and struck out five to earn his seventh consecutive victory for host Calvary Chapel (15-4, 11-0).

In the Orange League:

Anaheim 4, Brea Olinda 2--Enrique Mejia gave up six hits and one earned run, struck out five and walked one, and also had two hits and two RBIs for host Anaheim (8-14, 5-6).

Magnolia 2, Western 1--Greg Young (5-1) went the distance, giving up two hits and striking out five for Magnolia (14-4, 9-2). Young also singled in the game-winning run in the fourth inning.

In the Pacific Coast League:

University 12, Laguna Beach 4--Randy Lukasiewicz had three hits, two runs scored and an RBI for visiting University (13-9, 8-3), which led, 12-0, after 4 1/2 innings.

In the South Coast League:

Mater Dei 4, San Clemente 3--Mike Kolbach had two hits and two RBIs for Mater Dei (18-2, 11-0). Kolbach (7-0)pitched a complete game five-hitter.

Ryan Blackmun also had two hits for the Monarchs.

Trabuco Hills 6, Dana Hills 4--Josh Gause hit a two-out two-run single to break a 4-4 tie in the sixth and winning pitcher Graham Robby did not allow a baserunner in 4 2/3 innings of relief for host Trabuco Hills (10-9-1, 5-1).

Capistrano Valley 11, Mission Viejo 5--Todd Miller went four for four, including a double and a triple, two RBIs, three runs scored and two stolen bases for third-ranked Capistrano Valley (16-3, 9-2). Teammate Jon Edmonds went three for three and John DiCorpo added three hits.

In the Sunset League:

Los Alamitos 4, Fountain Valley 3 (8)--Jarrad Jones tied the score at 3-3 with a single in the bottom of the eighth and Ife Ohalete followed with the game-winning single. Jones finished with two hits and Ohalete went one for one with two RBIs.
