Nadeau, Oliver Ignite Canyons’ Power Surge

Rick Nadeau and Mike Oliver each slugged three home runs, and College of the Canyons had eight home runs in all, beating Mission, 13-6, Saturday at Mission to set up a showdown with Pierce for the Western State Conference South Division lead.

The Cougars (22-17, 17-6), who are tied with Pierce (27-10, 17-6) for the division lead with three games remaining, host the Brahmas on Tuesday.

Nadeau had four hits and drove in six runs. He has 15 home runs this season--one behind conference leader Mike Glendenning of Pierce.

Oliver, who hadn’t hit a home run this year before Saturday, had four runs batted in.

Brian Shaw, who had two hits, and Lou Sanchez also hit home runs for Canyons, which rallied from a 5-3 third-inning deficit, scoring five runs in the fourth inning to take command.

Oxnard 3, Cuesta 1--The Condors (30-6, 21-2) clinched at least a tie for the WSC North Division championship, beating second-place Cuesta.

Josh Towers (10-1) pitched a four-hitter and didn’t allow an earned run.

Cuesta took a 1-0 lead in the first, but Scott Foli’s two-run double in the eighth secured the victory for the Condors.

Glendale 4, Bakersfield 3--Karl Castro hit a two-run double with one out in the bottom of the ninth for the Vaqueros in a WSC game. Castro had two hits and Tim Rosales added three for the Vaqueros (14-23, 7-16).

Cal Lutheran 3-17, Pomona-Pitzer 8-6--Frank Maldonado’s three-run home run in the second game of a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader at Thousand Oaks paced a 14-hit attack as Cal Lutheran (27-9-1, 19-2) clinched its fourth conference title in five years.

In the second game, Maldonado had four hits, Adam Rauch had three and the Kingsmen stole 10 bases in as many attempts. Andrew Barber (6-2) struck out seven in six innings.

In the first game, Jarrod Kula’s three-run home run in the third gave Pomona-Pitzer (20-20, 10-11) a 5-0 lead against starter Erik Kiszczak (7-2). Tom McGee had two hits for Cal Lutheran.
