Royal Posts Upset on Error, 1-0

Royal High’s Jessica Pelayo scored on an error by shortstop Kristin Combe in the 13th inning to give the Highlanders a 1-0 upset over Thousand Oaks in a Marmonte League softball game Tuesday at Royal.

Thousand Oaks (16-7, 6-5 in league play), ranked No. 4 in The Times’ Valley poll, fell out of a third-place tie with Simi Valley and into fourth. The Highlanders are 11-12 and 4-7.

Kaelynn Jones (8-7) scattered seven hits and had seven strikeouts for Royal. Jennifer Sharron (15-7) allowed five hits and struck out 17 for the Lancers.

Simi Valley 6, Agoura 0--Lori Tande pitched a two-hitter with three strikeouts for the Pioneers (13-10, 7-4) in a Marmonte League game at Agoura. Michelle Schoen and Corinne Long each had two hits for Simi Valley.

Westlake 5, Channel Islands 0--Sarah Koppel had three hits and three RBIs, and Kelly DeArman (10-8) tossed a two-hitter and struck out six for the Warriors (13-8, 5-6) in a Marmonte League game at Westlake.

Hart 6, Burroughs 0--Vanessa Raschella (three runs batted in) and Kellie Nordhagen combined for five of 10 hits by the Indians (18-6, 6-1) in a Foothill League game at Hart.

Buena 4, Dos Pueblos 1--Erin Kelly (8-4) tossed a two-hitter with seven strikeouts and two walks and allowed an unearned run as the Bulldogs (14-8, 7-4) beat the Chargers (12-10, 7-4) in a Channel League game at Dos Pueblos.

Fillmore 3, Oak Park 2--Nicole Ortiz struck out 13 and walked two for the Flashes (14-4, 5-2), allowing four hits and two unearned runs in a Tri-Valley League game at Fillmore.

Moorpark 3, Calabasas 0--Tracey Milburn hit a leadoff home run for the third consecutive game as the Musketeers (12-8, 11-1) clinched at least a share of the Frontier League title with a victory over the Coyotes (10-6-1, 8-4) at Calabasas.

Highland 5, Quartz Hill 4--Jennifer Smith had four hits and drove in a run to spark the Bulldogs (13-10, 4-3) to a come-from-behind victory in a Golden League game at Quartz Hill.

Arcadia 2, Hoover 0--Tina Kinney allowed two unearned runs as the No. 8 Dynamiters (15-8, 5-2) committed five errors and fell one game behind first-place Arcadia in the Pacific League. Both Apache runs came on sacrifice flies following errors.

Canyon 6, Valencia 4--Danielle Cooper had two triples and a double for the Cowboys (6-16, 1-6) in a Foothill League game at Canyon.

Kennedy 5, San Fernando 0--Sandra Durazo pitched a one-hitter and struck out 16, and she also had two hits for the Golden Cougars (16-1, 10-0) in a Northwest Valley Conference game at Brand Park.

El Camino Real 9, Taft 3--Ramona Shelburne had three hits and two RBIs for the Conquistadores (14-4, 9-1) in a Northwest Valley Conference game at El Camino Real.

BASEBALL

Calabasas 6, Moorpark 2--Darin Reisman hit a two-run home run and finished with three RBIs for the Coyotes (16-2-2, 11-0-1), who won a Frontier League game in nine innings, scoring four runs in the top of the ninth at Moorpark (9-10, 6-6).

Glendale 7, Hoover 4--Davey Garley had a home run and a double for the Dynamiters (16-3, 10-2) in a Pacific League game at Glendale.

Quartz Hill 9, Highland 3--Doug Cole had three hits and two RBIs and Jo’Sean Lyles had two hits and two RBIs for the Rebels (17-4, 7-0) in a Golden League game at Highland.

Loyola 6, Crespi 5--Andy Campanella hit a game-tying, two-run double in the seventh inning for the Celts (16-6, 5-4), but the Cubs’ Scott Walter scored in the seventh in a Mission League game at Loyola.

Notre Dame 19, Alemany 8--Adam Boyd had four hits, including a solo home run and a grand slam in the same inning, and drove in six runs for the Knights (14-7, 5-4) in a Mission League game at Notre Dame.

Burbank 9, Canyon 4--Jeff Atkinson had three hits and Mike Lizarraga and Fred Sanchez each had two hits as the Bulldogs (9-11, 7-5) defeated Canyon (5-14, 3-9) in a Foothill League game at Burbank.

Dos Pueblos 4, Buena 3--Joe Codero doubled home Anthony Remos with the winning run in the top of the seventh as the Chargers (12-8, 6-5) edged the Bulldogs (14-6, 6-5) in a Channel League game at Buena.

Nordhoff 2, Santa Clara 1--Jake Crawford threw a four-hitter, striking out four, walking one and allowing an earned run as the Rangers (5-14, 3-9) beat the Saints (6-10, 4-8) in a Frontier League game at Santa Clara.

Paraclete 9, Desert 2--Ben Joyce had three hits, including a double, and drove in three runs, and Matt Bunker (3-4) scattered seven hits over six innings, striking out five, in a High Desert League game at Paraclete.

Grant 4, North Hollywood 3--Pinch-runner Reggie Marshall scored the winning run in the bottom of the 10th for the Lancers (9-14, 5-8) on a throwing error by shortstop Luis Alcarez of North Hollywood (4-18, 3-10) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game at Grant.

Saugus 5, Burroughs 2--Derek Lyons had two hits and two RBIs and earned the victory without giving up an earned run for the Centurions (15-8, 8-4) in a Foothill League game at Saugus.

Bishop Diego 4, Fillmore 3--Joe Stupar’s two-out, two-strike single in the eighth scored Aaron Rockett from second base with the winning run for the Cardinals (4-14-1, 2-6-1) in a Tri-Valley League game at Bishop Diego.

Oak Park 5, Carpinteria 3--Scott Christensen had two hits and three RBIs for the Eagles (13-6, 9-1), who clinched the Tri-Valley League title at Carpinteria.
