Canyons Rolls to Western State Title, 19-9

College of the Canyons clinched its first Western State Conference baseball championship since 1993 with a 19-9 rout over host Valley on Thursday.

Jeremy Seipel led the Cougars (24-17, 19-6) with four hits and three runs batted in, and Rick Nadeau had three hits, including two triples, and three RBIs. Kasey Canale added two hits and three RBIs.

Glendale 9, Pierce 3--Garrett Lee (2-1) pitched a complete game, striking out eight and walking three, for the Vaqueros (13-24, 8-17) in a Western State Conference game at Pierce. Casey Cote had two triples for Pierce (27-12, 17-8).

Santa Barbara 3, Oxnard 2--An eighth-inning, bases-loaded walk by Josh Towers allowed Marc Davidson to score the tying run, and Brad Smith scored the game-winner on a passed ball by Mike Muller for the Vaqueros (10-28, 7-18) in the Western State Conference game at Oxnard.

Despite the loss, the Condors (30-8, 21-4) clinched their first WSC North Division title since 1988 because Cuesta lost to Ventura.

HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL

La Reina 2, St. Bonaventure 0--Jennifer Baltruzak pitched a no-hitter, her third of the season, after taking a perfect game into the fifth inning as the Regents (15-8, 6-2) downed the Seraphs (10-12, 4-4) in a Tri-Valley League game at St. Bonaventure.

Baltruzak, a senior, struck out five and walked one in earning her eighth career no-hitter. She also singled in pinch-runner Cassie Williams in the sixth.

Hart 5, Valencia 0--Kelli Nordhagen batted four for four and scored two runs for the Indians (19-6, 7-1) in a Foothill League game at Hart.

Royal 1, Channel Islands 0--Jessica Pelayo scored for the Highlanders (12-12, 5-7) after Rachel Rough’s fly ball was dropped by the right fielder in the top of the 11th in a Marmonte League game at Channel Islands.

Highland 4, Antelope Valley 3--Autumn Bedford hit a one-out double in the sixth for the Bulldogs (14-10, 5-3) to drive in Kellie Reid and snap a 3-3 tie in a Golden League game at Highland.

Oak Park 10, Bishop Diego 0--Tabitha Tata (5-4) pitched a one-hitter and struck out eight for the Eagles (13-10, 7-1) in a Tri-Valley League at Bishop Diego called in the fifth inning because of the 10-run mercy rule.

Kelly Weaver had two hits, drove in a run and scored twice, and Tammi Beck had two hits and two RBIs.

Thousand Oaks 8, Agoura 1--Jennifer Sharron (16-7) pitched a one-hitter and struck out 15 for the Lancers (17-7, 7-5) in a Marmonte League game against visiting Agoura (9-13, 3-9). Jennifer Richards had two hits and Dot Bente hit a two-run double for Thousand Oaks.

Saugus 3, Burroughs 1--Nicole Giordano had three hits and Chris Gill had two, driving in two runs, for the Centurions (20-4, 8-0) in a Foothill League at Burroughs (13-8, 4-4). Jamie Gillies pitched a complete game and struck out three for Saugus.

Newbury Park 2, Westlake 1--Pitcher Kristi Fox hit a one-out double in the seventh, scoring Dominique Colell from second base with the game-winning run for the Panthers (19-5-1, 10-1-1) in a Marmonte League game at Newbury Park.

Fox (14-3) struck out eight and walked none.

Crescenta Valley 1, Hoover 0--Kellie Labor drove in Ericia Fernandez with one out in the eighth to lift the Falcons (18-6, 7-1) over the Tornadoes (15-9, 5-3) in a Pacific League game at Crescenta Valley.

HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL

North Hollywood 9, Grant 0--Ceasar Soto pitched a two-hitter with eight strikeouts and Daniel Eisenberg had two doubles for the Huskies (10-16, 6-8) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game at North Hollywood.

Verdugo Hills 11, Wilson 0--Jeff Martin and Jimmy Stevenson each batted four for five and drove in two runs, and Ethan Slimak had three hits and three RBIs for the Dons (9-7, 9-5) in a Northern Conference game at Wilson.

Canoga Park 4, Van Nuys 3--Chris Salazar scored on an error in the top of the third to provide the winning run for the Hunters (5-13, 5-9) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game at Van Nuys. Kevin Carlson led Canoga Park with two hits.
