Osuna Gives Verdugo Hills Grand Opening in 14-4 Win

Jesus Osuna hit a grand slam in the first inning and a run-scoring double in the fourth to lead Verdugo Hills to a 14-4 victory over Van Nuys South in a District 20 opener Wednesday at Van Nuys Sherman Oaks Park.

Mark Hutchinson, Fernando Rios and Jon Walton each had two hits for Verdugo Hills, which collected 15 hits.

Phil Onsaga (1-0), a senior left-hander last season for Glendale High, pitched a two-hitter with nine strikeouts and three walks.

The game was called after five innings because of the 10-run rule.

Panorama City 8, San Fernando 2--John Ennis pitched a three-hitter, striking out eight and walking three, for Panorama City in a District 20 opener at San Fernando High.

Ed Jung had three hits for Panorama City, including a run-scoring double, and John Wilson added a triple and a run-scoring single.

Wilson scored the go-ahead run in the sixth inning on Seth Barkley’s sacrifice fly.

Palmdale 12, Santa Clarita North 5--Kyle Jolly had two hits and scored two runs for host Santa Clarita North, which lost its District 20 opener.

Nate Wright hit a solo home run in the fifth inning for Santa Clarita North.

West Hills 5, Van Nuys East 0--Ryan Hamill and Chris Martinez each had four hits for West Hills (1-1) in a District 20 game at Chaminade High.

Chris Gray (1-0), who pitched a seven-hitter, struck out two and walked none.
