Revolution Slips Past MetroStars and Meola

Joe-Max Moore, Geoff Aunger and Alberto Naveda scored on New England’s first three shots of a shootout and the Revolution defeated the New York/New Jersey MetroStars, 2-1, on Saturday before 20,162 at Foxboro, Mass.

With New England leading, 3-2, after four shooters in the shootout, goalkeeper Jim St. Andre saved the shot by Peter Vermes to give New England (11-10) its sixth shootout victory.

New York/New Jersey goalie Tony Meola had stopped nine of 10 shootout chances before this game.

After giving up the first three goals, Meola gave the MetroStars one last chance when he saved a shot by Darren Sawatzky.

Moore, playing in just his third game for the Revolution, scored his third goal in the 42nd minute, to give New England a 1-0 lead at the half.

The MetroStars (10-11) tied the score in the 54th minute when Roberto Donadoni curled in a free kick from 30 yards out.

Tampa Bay 3, Colorado 1--Roy Lassiter scored three goals Saturday night, leading the Mutiny to the victory over the Rapids at Tampa Bay in front of 6,281.

Lassiter, who has 16 goals this season, opened the scoring in the eighth minute, made it 2-0 in the 65th minute and scored again in the 70th minute. Colombian star Carlos Valderrama assisted on both second-half goals.

Tampa Bay improved its league-leading record to 13-8. Jean Harbor scored for Colorado (9-15) in the 85th minute.
