Coach Doesn’t Expect Stovall to Return to Woodbridge

Woodbridge High’s Erin Stovall, one of the top girls’ basketball players in the state, will not return to the team next season, Coach Pat Quinn said.

Costa Mesa basketball player Koo Kim, who played on the South Coast Hoyas traveling team that is coached by William Stovall, Erin’s father, said she spoke Monday to Erin and was told she would leave for Hawaii the next day to attend school.

Stovall, a 5-foot-7 guard, helped lead the Warriors to back-to-back state Division II championships and was twice named first-team All-Orange County. Stovall averaged 20.2 points and had 112 steals last season.

Quinn said she did not play with the team during summer league and he has not talked with Erin since July 1. Quinn said there has been friction between him and the parents over Stovall attending practice.

“I told her if I did not hear from her, that would be the end of her at Woodbridge,” Quinn said. “I told the girls she would no longer be with us.

“I called their house last week because I needed some videos from last year. Will called back and told me never call the house again. I assumed at that point he had decided.”

The Stovalls did not return phone calls.
