Concordia, SCC Win in Volleyball

Concordia and Southern California College advanced Friday to the championship bracket of the Concordia Labor Day Women’s Volleyball Festival at Concordia.

Christine Heims had 17 kills to lead SCC against Holy Names in the 16-9, 15-11, 15-5 pool-play victory. In the second game, SCC defeated Cal State Dominguez Hills, 15-10, 15-13, 15-5.

Concordia beat Lewis & Clark (Oregon), 15-4, 15-17, 15-13, 14-16, 15-10 and defeated Cal State Hayward, 15-9, 16-14, 15-6.

SCC will play Chico State and Concordia will meet Cal State Baptist today, with both games starting at 11 a.m.

In the Anteater Women’s Volleyball Challenge:

Cal State Fullerton 3, Nevada Las Vegas 0--Senior Heather Bassett had 13 kills to lead Fullerton to a sweep of the Rebels, 15-10, 15-1, 15-9. The Titans will play Santa Clara at 4:30 p.m. today.

Santa Clara 3, UC Irvine 2--Tandie Wade had 20 kills and teammate Jamie Hill added 17 for the Anteaters, who lost, 11-15, 15-9, 15-4, 12-15, 15-11. Senior middle blocker Jamie Elson had 23 kills to lead Santa Clara. The Anteaters will face the Rebels tonight at 7.

In the Titan men’s soccer invitational:

Cal State Fullerton 2, Western Kentucky 0--Adam Black scored about 35 yards out to break a scoreless tie in the 59th minute of the game. Joe DiCiamarino made the Titans’ second goal off a penalty kick 25 minutes later. Fullerton will play Wisconsin on Sunday.
