Monster Tryout: Move over Knott’s. Universal CityWalk is cranking up its Halloween efforts. . . . There will be a preview this morning when Hollywood wannabes flock to Universal to audition for a live production of the “World’s Scariest Haunted House,” a Halloween exhibit opening Sept. 13. That’s a Friday, of course.
Mouse in the Corner: Even as some members of Congress climb aboard the Internet (A6), two L.A. City Council members have launched their own interactive Web pages. Laura Chick and Mark Ridley-Thomas are the first from the council on the Web, with sites allowing complaints and suggestions to be sent via the Internet. . . . Kickoff: High school football league previews begin today in Valley Sports (C6). First up: the Golden League, where Antelope Valley is the defending champion. Among the key players to watch is the Antelopes’ Tony Walker, above, a receiver and defensive back described as the league’s most dangerous player on both sides of the ball.
On Another Front: After a grueling week at Castaic Lake, about 500 firefighters have been given a change of scenery--reassignment to mountainous Wrightwood, where a wildfire erupted Sunday. Not all crew members worked through the holiday though. “Every 21 days, firefighters have to have a mandatory day off,” said a Forest Service spokeswoman. . . . The Castaic recreation area was due to reopen today. .
