Coach: Scott Taylor (first year).
1995: 23-4, 5-0 in the Pacific Coast League; won the Southern Section Division II championship, beating Marina, 12-11, in the final.
Key returners: Chad Cleaver, two-meter man, Jr.; Todd Hylton, two-meter man, Jr.; Justin Taylor, goalkeeper, Sr.
Key newcomers: Kris Montgomery, utility, Jr.; P.J. O’Brien, utility, Jr.; Vince Samaniego, utility, Jr.; Alex Soria, utility, Jr.; Travis Spunaugle, utility, Jr.; Robi Steinhilber, goalkeeper, Jr.; Hunter Taylor, utility, So.; Jimmy Walters, two-meter man, Jr.
Outlook: Scott Taylor, an assistant the last two years and the Mustangs’ goalkeeper in 1986, ’87 and ‘88, takes over for Brian Kreutzkamp. After the graduation of nine players, the Mustangs are left with only one returning starter, goalkeeper Justin Taylor (no relation). But it’s a good foundation--Taylor is one of the better goalies around--and Hylton and Cleaver are ready to step forward after playing reserve roles last year. Scott Taylor said the team came together well during the summer. “They have,” he said, “the potential to find themselves in the CIF championship game again.”
