Top CSUN Lineman To Miss Rest of Year

Pete Silvey, whom Coach Dave Baldwin said was Cal State Northridge’s best defensive lineman in the first three games, will miss the rest of the season with a stress fracture in his right foot.

“It’s a killer blow for us,” Baldwin said. “But that’s the way football is.”

Silvey, a sophomore from Mater Dei High, will undergo surgery next Friday. Silvey said he suffered a previous stress fracture in his foot and re-injured it during practice Wednesday. He and Baldwin learned the severity of the injury after X-rays were taken Thursday.

Silvey, who has already used his redshirt season, had started all three games. The 6-foot-3, 250-pound lineman had five tackles and one sack. Keith Selico, a junior transfer from El Camino College, will replace Silvey in the defensive line rotation.
