Two single-game offensive school records were set Friday night as Mission Viejo trounced Century, 56-0, in front of 2,500 fans.

The 56 points by the Diablos (3-2) tied a single-game mark set by the school in 1990 against Arcadia.

Junior Nick Gilliam set a team record for most extra points in a game with eight. The previous mark was seven, set in 1978.

“Consistency is the key,” Gilliam said. “I don’t try to blast it and I practice the snaps and kicks daily. Playing soccer helps too.”

With five games remaining, Gilliam is set to challenge the season-school record of 42 extra points, set by Doug Roberson in 1990. Gilliam currently has 15 point after conversions on the season.

The Diablos scored three touchdowns in five minutes midway through the second quarter to build a 35-0 lead at halftime.

Mike Chavis led the first-half onslaught with two touchdowns--a 32-yard touchdown run and a 19-yard pass from Eric Spencer. Spencer also connected on another scoring pass, a 17-yarder to Scott Carr, and ran in another from one-yard out. Brad Fielding had an 11-yard run with three minutes and 15 seconds remaining in the second quarter.

The Diablos defense held Century (1-4) to no yards in the first quarter and only eight total yards in the first half.
