Schorr’s Course Record Sparks Mission Viejo

Angela Schorr’s course record of 19 minutes 34 seconds helped Mission Viejo in its 20-39 South Coast League victory over Capistrano Valley in girls’ cross-country Wednesday.
Finishing second was Cynthia Rehart, who was inches behind teammate Schorr on the three-mile course at Laguna Niguel Regional Park. Sixth-ranked Mission Viejo is 3-1.
In the Century League:
El Modena 16, Canyon 47--Leslie Burton, Jessica Dahlberg and Katie Kennedy tied for first with a time of 19:09 over three-miles for El Modena. The Vanguards are 4-0.
Foothill 16, Santa Ana Valley 39--Leah Benno finished first in 19:57 for ninth-ranked Foothill (3-1) on Irvine Park’s 3.1-mile course.
In the South Coast League::
Dana Hills 15, Mater Dei 40--It was no contest for third-ranked Dana Hills as it swept the top five places. Senior Sydney Leonard finished the three-mile course in 18:10, followed by teammate Christa Fitzgerald four seconds later.
In Century League boys’ cross-country:
El Modena 15, Canyon 49--El Modena’s Tim Allen, Mike Allen, Zach Amos, Ben Handler and Gabe Mejia tied for first with a time of 16:39 over three miles at Irvine Park. El Modena is 3-1 in league races.
In the South Coast League:
Mater Dei 27, Dana Hills 28--Michael Zepeda finished first with a time of 15:51 over three miles at Fairview Park as Mater Dei (3-0) edged Dana Hills. The Dolphins dropped to 2-1 in league.
Mission Viejo 24, Capistrano Valley 33--Mark Gleason finished first in 15:48 over three miles for Mission Viejo (3-0).
In nonleague girls’ tennis:
Rosary 18, Corona Centennial 0--Eleanor Luzano swept in singles, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, for seventh-ranked Rosary (11-1). Luzano has not given up a game in her last 16 sets.
University 16, Marina 2--Amy Ling and Jennifer Aswad swept at No. 3 doubles, 7-6 (7-3), 6-2, 6-1, for University (5-7).
In Golden West League girls’ volleyball:
Ocean View 3, Tustin 0--Sharon Shelton had nine kills as ninth-ranked Ocean View (10-0, 3-0) defeated Tustin, 15-2, 15-1, 15-3.
In Century League water polo:
Foothill 26, Orange 4--Jeff Pflueger led top-ranked Foothill with four goals. Kevin McKee and Ryan Carroll each had three goals for the Knights (15-1, 2-0).
Villa Park 20, Canyon 6--Kyle Baumgarner scored eight goals, Nick Pacelli had five and Joey Pacelli had seven assists for second-ranked Villa Park (17-3, 2-0).
In the Empire League:
El Dorado 20, Cypress 10--Max Aguilar scored seven goals in a victory for El Dorado (12-4, 3-0). Kendall and Brett Benson each scored three goals for the Golden Hawks.
In the Freeway League:
Buena Park 10, La Habra 9--Buena Park scored four goals to start the fourth quarter and took a 10-7 lead over La Habra (1-1 in league). Jared Jones scored five goals for the Coyotes 12-5, 2-0).
Sunny Hills 12, Sonora 9 (OT)--Jeff Garand scored two fourth-quarter goals and two overtime goals to lead Sunny Hills (9-10, 1-1). Garand scored seven goals in the game for the Lancers.
Troy 14, Fullerton 8--Andrew Ruga scored eight goals in a victory for Troy (10-4, 1-1). Jim Kennedy scored four goals for the Warriors.
In the Golden West League:
Santa Ana 11, Ocean View 8--Merced DeSantiago scored three of his five goals in the fourth quarter for Santa Ana (6-9, 1-1). Ivan Hernandez added three goals for the Saints. Alex Sandors had four goals to lead Ocean View.
Westminster 14, Saddleback 13--Senior Bobby Weeks scored the winner for Westminster in the sudden-death game. Weeks accounted for all of Westminster’s overtime scoring. Troy Sears of Westminster (7-3, 2-0) sent the game into overtime with 10 seconds left.
In the Orange League:
Brea Olinda 18, Valencia 6--Senior Brian Doherty scored eight goals for visiting Brea Olinda (9-3, 3-0), which is ranked fifth in Division VI. Matt Flesher added four goals for the Wildcats.
In the Sea View League:
Corona del Mar 22, Woodbridge 7--Carter Weir scored four of his six goals in the first quarter for Corona del Mar (7-8, 2-). Kawiika Tarayao had four goals for the Sea Kings.
El Toro 11, Newport Harbor 5--Senior Matt Sakatani had five goals and Parker Boone, who didn’t start the game, had two goals and five steals for sixth-ranked El Toro (11-6, 2-0).
Santa Margarita 12, Irvine 5--Goalkeeper Brett Weiss had 14 saves, four steals and assisted on a goal for Santa Margarita (10-5, 2-0). Trevor Walsh scored four goals to lead the Eagles.
