CHAPMAN TONIGHT

Share

Opponent--Sonoma State.

Site--Chapman stadium.

Time--7.

Records--Sonoma State (1-4); Chapman (4-0).

Sonoma State update--The Cossacks won for the first game since 1994, defeating Humboldt State, 24-10, in a Northern California Athletic Conference game last week. Quarterback Mike Nelson has thrown for 779 yards with seven touchdowns and seven interceptions. Receiver Coco Brayer has caught 30 passes for 332 yards.

Chapman update--The Panthers face their second NCAA Division II opponent in three weeks. Chico State, the last one, went down, 44-15. Sonoma State might present more of a challenge especially if Panther running back Darnell Morgan isn’t 100%. Morgan, suffered a lower leg injury last week against Cal Lutheran, didn’t practice and is listed as questionable for the game. The effectiveness of reserve back Ramsey Byrd, who rushed for 96 yards in the 49-7 victory over Cal Lutheran, could be crucial.
