Carter’s Little Kills Lead Fountain Valley Girls

Larissa Carter had 20 kills and 20 digs as second-ranked Fountain Valley defeated No. 5 Esperanza, 15-4, 15-13, 10-15, 11-15, 15-10, in a Sunset League girls’ volleyball match Tuesday at Esperanza.

Summer Altice had 17 kills and Kristin Deatherage had 16 for the Barons (9-2, 4-1), who had 11 blocks in the match. Setter Carla Miali also contributed 58 assists.

In another Sunset League matches:

Huntington Beach 3, Los Alamitos 0--Stephanie Draeger had five kills for top-ranked Huntington Beach (13-0, 5-0), which won, 15-7, 15-9, 15-6.

In the Academy League:

Capistrano Valley Christian 3, Liberty Christian 0--Carmen Fusco had eight aces for the visiting Eagles (7-3, 5-0), who won, 15-0, 15-4, 15-10.

In the Empire League:

Cypress 3, Century 0--Dusty Creager and Michelle Woiemberghe had 15 kills each for Cypress (7-1, 5-0), which won, 15-9, 15-13, 15-12.

In the Freeway League:

Sunny Hills 3, Buena Park 0--Sunny Nicholas had 18 kills for host Sunny Hills (4-7, 4-1), which won, 15-3, 15-4, 15-12.

In the Pacific Coast League:

Laguna Beach 3, Costa Mesa 0--Kelly Garner had five kills for third-ranked Laguna Beach (14-1, 5-0), which won, 15-1, 15-3, 15-1.

Laguna Hills 3, Aliso Niguel 1--Tayyiba Haneef had 16 kills for host Laguna Hills (8-2, 4-1), which won, 15-13, 8-15, 15-13, 16-14.

In the Sea View League:

Irvine 3, Corona del Mar 0--Kelly Webb had 10 kills for visiting Irvine (7-4, 3-2), which won, 15-9, 15-6, 15-9. Irvine is ranked sixth in Division I-A.

Newport Harbor 3, Santa Margarita 2--Host Newport Harbor, ranked seventh in the county, edged eighth-ranked Santa Margarita, 15-8, 12-15, 9-15, 15-12, 15-7. Beth Waterman had 21 kills and Jennifer Carey had 65 assists and 10 kills for the Sailors (6-3, 5-0), ranked third in Division I-AA.

Kiki Maroutsos and Sabrina King each had 16 kills for Santa Margarita (6-3, 4-1), ranked second in Division II-A.

In the South Coast League:

Capistrano Valley 3, Mater Dei 1--K.T. Lamb had 12 kills for sixth-ranked Capistrano Valley (8-2, 4-1), which won, 10-15, 15-8, 15-11, 15-13. Lauren Warner had 14 kills for Mater Dei (3-4, 2-3), ranked third in Division I-A. Capistrano Valley is ranked second in Division I-A.

Dana Hills 3, San Clemente 0--Jamie Bari had 16 kills for fourth-ranked Dana Hills (12-3, 5-0), which won, 15-11, 15-10, 15-8.

In Century League girls’ tennis:

Canyon 9, Foothill 9 (Canyon wins on games, 72-71)--Shannon Wilkins posted the match’s only sweep, winning in singles, 6-0, 6-1, 6-0. Lauren Butler and Amber Harries trailed, 5-2, in the match’s final set, but they broke serve and won another game before losing the set, 6-4, to provide the winning margin for the Comanches (4-10, 4-1).

Villa Park 15, El Modena 3--Jasmine Cheung and Ami Moran swept in doubles, 6-0, 6-0, 6-2, for fourth-ranked Villa Park (9-3, 5-0).

In the Empire League:

El Dorado 19 1/2, Kennedy 1 1/2--Amanda Oldridge won at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-0. Sixth-ranked El Dorado is 15-1, 7-0.

In the Pacific Coast League:

University 10, Laguna Beach 8--Etel Bugescu swept in singles, 6-0, 6-3, 6-1, for University (6-8, 5-1).

In the Sea View League:

Corona del Mar 16, Irvine 2--Caylan Leslie swept in singles, 6-0, 6-0, 6-1, for Corona del Mar (14-1, 5-1), ranked third in Orange County and first in Division I.

In the South Coast League:

Mater Dei 10, Capistrano Valley 8--Sarah Luckey defeated Leigh Ann Merryman in the final set, 7-5, to clinch the victory for the eighth-ranked Monarchs (9-4, 4-1), who topped Capistrano Valley (13-2, 3-2), ranked ninth in the county and fourth in Division II.

In nonleague water polo:

Servite 14, Riverside Poly 10--Sixth-ranked Servite received five goals from Brett Dallas and three by Chris Hamme. The host Friars (12-4) led, 10-3, at the half.

Villa Park 19, Garden Grove 3--Kyle Baumgarner scored seven goals for host Villa Park (18-3), ranked second in the county and third in Division I. Garden Grove is 12-4.
