Santa Margarita and Newport Harbor combined for more than 1,000 yards of offense last week in the Eagles’ 36-22 victory, and there could be more of the same against Irvine, which has two running backs instead of Newport Harbor’s one. In addition to Al Williams, the Vaqueros have Jake Savona (337 yards, 7.0 per carry), and Jared Flint has rushed for six touchdowns. Irvine’s only losses have been to Mater Dei (35-30) and Servite (35-19). John Minardi’s four catches for 172 yards against Newport Harbor set a single-game yardage standard for Eagle receivers.
