Dressed to Kill, Cal Lutheran Wins

Senior outside hitter Tracy Little collected 20 kills and 16 digs for Cal Lutheran in a 15-12, 15-10, 14-16, 9-15, 15-13 women’s volleyball victory over UC San Diego on Wednesday night at Cal Lutheran.

Little also had five aces and two blocks, and junior outside hitter Jennifer Pappas added 12 kills and five digs for Cal Lutheran (15-3), ranked sixth in NCAA Division III.

UC San Diego (18-6) was ranked fourth.

Cal Lutheran’s Karen Kasper had nine kills and the Regals got 15 digs apiece from Kim Bauer and Jamey Light.

Madelyn Ripken had 17 kills, 16 digs and three aces, and Mieke Biesheuvel had 14 kills for the Tritons.

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Van Nuys d. Reseda, 15-0, 15-1, 15-10--Sharon Foster had nine kills and Jane Ahn added eight for the Wolves (9-1, 3-0) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference match at Reseda (3-6, 0-3).

Peggy Hongthong had nine aces and 24 assists for Van Nuys.

Canoga Park d. Monroe, 15-10, 15-5, 15-13--Janelle Balzer had eight kills and three digs, and Karen Kotitschke added six kills, five digs and three aces for the Hunters (7-3, 4-3) in a Valley Pac-8 match at Canoga Park.

Granada Hills d. Cleveland, 15-2, 9-15, 15-6, 11-15, 15-8--Michelle Ferrucci had 11 kills and 10 blocks for the Highlanders (6-2, 3-2) in a Northwest Valley Conference match.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

UC Irvine 2, Pepperdine 1--Tracie Manz’s second-half goal at Irvine was her fifth game-winner of the season.

Irvine (10-6-1) led, 1-0, at halftime on Claudia Ruggiero’s goal.

Pepperdine (9-5) pulled even on a goal by Eva Popper.

Cal Lutheran 8, Redlands 0--Deanna Luque had two goals and one assist and Ashley Scott added two goals as the Regals (14-2, 10-0) clinched at least a tie for their sixth consecutive Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship.

BOYS’ CROSS-COUNTRY

Thousand Oaks 15, Channel Islands 47; Thousand Oaks 20, Royal 42; Channel Islands 25, Royal 30--Chris Ramirez of Royal placed first with a time of 16 minutes 22 seconds over the three-mile course, but Thousand Oaks swept the next five places in a Marmonte League meet.

Danny Kilgore was second in 16:35 and John Barbachano placed in 16:39 for the Lancers (7-0, 7-0), who clinched their fifth consecutive regular-season league title.

Newbury Park 23, Agoura 33--The Panthers (7-2, 6-1), paced by Ross Wood’s winning time of 16:26 over the three-mile course, took four of the first five places in the Marmonte League meet at Agoura.

North Hollywood 18, Sylmar 39--Paul Muite clocked 16:02 over the three-mile course for the Huskies (4-0, 2-0), who took the first four places in the Valley Pac-8 Conference meet at Pierce College.

GIRLS’ CROSS-COUNTRY

Thousand Oaks 15, Royal 48; Thousand Oaks 18, Channel Islands 45; Royal 26, Channel Islands 30--Amanda Armstrong timed 19:24 over the three-mile course as the Lancers (7-0, 7-0) took five of the first six places in a Marmonte League meet at Waverly Park.

The victory clinched Thousand Oaks’ third consecutive regular-season league title.

Birmingham 19, Chatsworth 53--Sophomore Tiffany Burgess won in 19:56 over the three-mile course as the City Section champion Braves (2-0, 2-0) took four of the top five places in a Northwest Valley Conference meet.
