In the Christian League:

West Covina Western Christian 7, Southern California Christian 0--Brian Nies scored on a nine-yard run with 3:54 left in the third quarter as Covina Western Christian went on to win its first game of the season. The Fighting Lancers improve to 1-8 overall, 1-4 in the Christian League.

Southern California Christian (4-5, 0-4) had one last chance near the end of the game. The Flames drove to Western Christian’s 36-yard line but were driven back to midfield.

On fourth down and 33, running back Jeremy Smith stepped in at quarterback. Smith’s pass was intercepted by Christian Garcia and Western Christian ran out the clock.

In the Academy League:

Inglewood Price Christian Academy 64, Liberty Christian 34--Louis Jamison rushed for five touchdowns and passed for two more in a victory for Price Christian Academy (2-5-1, 3-2).

Quarterback Jon Stephens, filling in for injured sophomore C.J. Leeman, passed for two touchdowns and 172 yards for Liberty Christian (3-6, 1-4).

Leeman was taken to the hospital because of a neck injury, but was later released with no apparent serious problems.

Heritage Christian 60, Redlands Calvary Chapel 12 (mercy rule)--Paul Caffrey scored on a five-yard run two minutes into the fourth quarter for visiting Heritage Christian (7-1, 4-1) and the game was called.

Heritage Christian’s Jared Zielinski finished with 223 yards and five touchdowns in 24 carries. He scored on runs of 25, 12, eight, five and 45 yards. He has rushed 1,063 yards and scored 28 touchdowns so far this season.

Jason Burns added 99 yards in 11 carries and also had 31-yard touchdown reception on a pass from Chris Myrtle.
