Soccer Team Has Its Own Problem

Share

Van Nuys High has admitted to holding illegal boys’ soccer practices and the violation will be presented to the City Section rules committee Dec. 5, section Commissioner Barbara Fiege said.

Fiege sent a letter of inquiry to Van Nuys on Nov. 2 and decided to involve the rules committee after reading the response of Jack Molina, Van Nuys assistant principal for athletics. The 13-member committee includes coaches, school officials and community representatives.

City teams began official practices Tuesday. Daily practices during the off-season are limited to a one-period physical education class.

Coaches may hold 20 hours of “pre-screening” before the season to determine which players will make the varsity but the hours must be documented and sent to the section office. Fiege said Van Nuys did not send the section office its pre-screening documentation.
