Second Round Is Set in Region IV

All eight teams in Region IV of the Southern Section Division II-A tournament were from the county and four teams remain after Tuesday’s first round. In second-round matches tonight at 7 p.m., Cypress (14-1) hosts Foothill (12-3) and Laguna Hills (12-4) hosts Valencia (17-0).

Some of the seeded teams in Divisions I-AA and I-A will play their first playoff matches tonight at 7 p.m. after having byes in Tuesday’s first round. In Division I-AA, second-seeded Dana Hills (15-1) hosts Alta Loma (12-3), third-seeded Laguna Beach (19-2) hosts Apple Valley (13-2) and fourth-seeded Newport Harbor (14-3) hosts Arroyo Grande (12-2). In Division I-A, top-seeded Fountain Valley (14-2) hosts Aliso Niguel (11-5), No. 2 Capistrano Valley hosts Nogales (19-9) and fourth-seeded Irvine (10-5) hosts Canyon Springs (18-1).

Among county teams on the road, tonight, Santa Margarita (10-5), seeded second in Division II-A, must travel about 200 miles to Ridgecrest Burroughs (10-5) for a second-round match.
