Orange Starts Quickly, Beats Santa Ana Valley

Orange has been able to move the ball all season. The Panthers just had trouble scoring.

Orange solved that problem when it scored 29 first-quarter points Thursday night on its way to a 50-32 victory over Santa Ana Valley at El Modena.

The Panthers (4-6, 2-3) must wait for the outcome of tonight’s Century League game between El Modena and Villa Park. A Villa Park victory would produce a three-way tie for third place, with the final playoff spot being decided by coin flip. El Modena would win the berth with a victory.

Orange scored early when Derald Deason caught a 50-yard touchdown pass from James Starr. After the Falcons (0-10, 0-5) fumbled the ensuing kickoff, Starr increased the lead to 14-0 on a three-yard run.

On the opening play of Santa Ana Valley’s next possession, running back Robert Bobo was tackled for a five-yard loss and a safety. Orange then scored when Chance Perry found Deason with a 24-yard touchdown pass.

Deason closed the first-quarter scoring when he intercepted a pass from Mike Silvas and returned the ball 46 yards for a touchdown and a 29-0 lead.

Silvas had a good night, completing 16 of 26 passes for 320 yards and five touchdowns with two interceptions.
