Savello Leads Garden Grove Girls Past Loara

Katie Savello scored with three minutes left in the game to give Garden Grove a 3-2 victory over Loara in girls’ nonleague girls’ soccer Friday.
Savello, who scored two goals in the game, kicked the ball in the goal after taking a corner kick from Julie Servin. Garden Grove improved to 3-2; Loara fell to 0-3.
In the Irvine girls’ soccer tournament:
Aliso Niguel 2, La Puente Bishop Amat 0--Cindy Johnson and Megan Ross scored for Aliso Niguel. Nicole Trott assisted on both goals.
Esperanza 3, Newport Harbor 0--Stacy Jarney, Nicki Rime and Melissa Nevin scored and Tracy Sharp recorded her third shutout for Esperanza (3-2), which advanced to the semifinals.
In the Irvine boys’ soccer tournament:
Woodbridge 3, University 0--Yigal Kersenbaum scored two goals in the first half and Shane Johnson scored the third 28 minutes into the second half of the consolation game. Woodbridge (2-1) plays La Puente Bishop Amat at 11:30 a.m. today at Irvine High.
In nonleague boys’ soccer:
Capistrano Valley Christian 2, Covina Western Christian 0--Bryant Wolfsberger scored two second-half goals for Capistrano Valley Christian.
Fountain Valley 2, Santa Margarita 0--Adam Novak and Ryan Schmalz scored in Fountain Valley’s upset of eighth-ranked Santa Margarita.
Fullerton 1, Santiago 0--Scott Belon, on an assist by Jose Cruz, scored the winner midway in the first half. This is the second consecutive shutout for Fullerton (2-0-1).
Garden Grove 3, Bellflower 2--Chris Hospedales tied the score early in the second half and later put Garden Grove (1-1-1) ahead for good with a goal in the 74th minute.
Newport Harbor 3, Costa Mesa 0--Garrett Jansma scored two goals and Manny Opresso scored a goal for Newport Harbor. This was the first game in the District Cup, an unofficial competition series between Newport Harbor, Costa Mesa, Corona del Mar, and Estancia high schools.
