Area Teams Hit Road for Top Competition
Tournament fever reaches a peak with several county boys’ basketball teams participating in out-of-state events starting today.
Closer to home, the county hosts four major events: The Canyon, Century, Daily Pilot and Orange tournaments begin today and continue Friday and Saturday, with finals scheduled Monday night.

Prep basketball--The Mater Dei boys’ basketball team meets Good Counsel (Md.) tonight in the first round of the Delaware Slam Dunk to the Beach National Invitational at Lewes (Del.) Cape Henlopen High. The championship game is Monday. Because of an editing error, Thursday’s Times Orange County Edition left out this information.
Mater Dei, the county’s top-ranked team, is taking the week off after a third-place finish at the Reebok Holiday Prep Classic in Las Vegas. The Monarchs’ next game is Jan. 4 against Cerritos Gahr at the Bren Center.
