SCC Rallies to Defeat Point Loma Nazarene

Southern California College overcame a 12-point deficit to defeat Point Loma Nazarene, 70-61, Saturday night in a Golden State Athletic Conference game. The victory was the third consecutive in conference for the Vanguards (16-7, 3-3).

SCC fell behind, 26-14, after Bret Psilopoulos made a three-pointer with 4 minutes 40 seconds remaining in the first half. But the Vanguards took control of the game from there, outscoring Point Loma, 42-15, over the next 16 minutes.

Point Loma (6-14, 1-5) was able to cut the deficit to 58-52 with 4:30 left in the game, but was unable to get any closer.

Eric Walker, who had 19 points, made five of six free throws in the final 1:30 to help seal SCC’s victory.

Terence Wilborn had 15 points and 12 rebounds for the Vanguards. Teammate Adam Dzierzynski had 12 points.

Robert Amo had 19 points for Point Loma. Chad Urie added 17 points and 11 rebounds for the Crusaders.

In Golden State Athletic Conference women’s basketball:

Point Loma Nazarene 79, Southern California College 55--Point Loma Nazarene used a 14-2 run to start the game and went on to win its sixth game in its last seven.

Amber Cravy and Suzanne Knight each scored 21 points for Point Loma Nazarene (9-10, 4-1).

Amber Chaney scored 19 points for SCC (13-7, 2-4).

In nonconference men’s basketball:

Cal Baptist Christian 84, Concordia 74--Rick Haywood scored 22 points and Greg O’Hagan added 15 for Concordia.

Chapman 80, Menlo College 58--Greg Evans was four for six from three-point range, scoring 19 points to lead Chapman. Teammate Toby Curto added 16.
