Clack Clicks and Puts Texas on Right Track

Kris Clack scored 13 points in a decisive 19-0 run midway through the second half as Texas defeated No. 23 Texas Tech, 83-67, in a Big 12 Conference game Monday night at Austin, Texas.

Texas Tech, 13-6 overall and 5-4 in the Big 12, has lost three straight. It trailed, 51-50, with 10:31 left before Texas (12-7, 6-3) went on its run.

No. 9 New Mexico 74, Brigham Young 32--Charles Smith scored 23 points to become the leading scorer in school history as the Lobos (17-3, 6-2) won the Western Athletic Conference game over the Cougars (1-17, 0-8).

No. 17 Xavier 83, La Salle 67--Lenny Brown scored 23 points against the Explorers (7-11, 2-6) as the Musketeers (16-3, 7-2) won the Atlantic 10 Conference game at Philadelphia.

OTHER GAMES

Victor Page scored 11 of his 15 points in the final 10 minutes, including a key three-point basket down the stretch, as Georgetown (14-7, 7-6) held off Connecticut (12-8, 5-6) for a 52-51 Big East Conference victory at Hartford, Conn. . . . Southeast Missouri (10-12, 7-4) blew a 12-point second-half lead, but regrouped and survived a late scare for a 73-72 Ohio Valley Conference victory over Austin Peay (11-11, 8-4) at Cape Girardeau, Mo.

College Basketball Notes

Kansas (22-0) was No. 1 in the AP poll, its 10th consecutive week there and the longest run on top since Duke went wire-to-wire in the 1991-92 season. Wake Forest (18-1) was again the runner-up.
