Clark’s 30 Points Carry Canyons

LaCresha Clark scored 30 points for the streaking College of the Canyons women’s basketball team, which defeated Valley, 109-83, in a Western State Conference Southern Division game Wednesday night at Canyons.

The Cougars (23-4, 6-0 in division play), ranked second in the state, moved a game ahead of the Monarchs (18-9, 5-1) in the division standings.

Kyetra Brown scored 20 points and Nikki Turner had 18 for Canyons, which won its 11th consecutive game.

Zevette Mitchell had 16 points and 15 rebounds for Canyons. Tanya McLaughlin had 17 points for Valley.

Victor Valley 80, Antelope Valley 66--Kristen Phillips scored 29 points and Chakana Mayo had 16 points, but the Marauders (12-13, 7-5) fell to first-place Victor Valley (20-4, 12-0) in a Foothill Conference game at Antelope Valley.

Georgette Brewer scored 25 points and Vanita Graham had 20 points for Victor Valley.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Antelope Valley 95, Cerro Coso 89--Michael Hamelin scored 23 points, John Burrell scored 22, and the Marauders rallied from a seven-point deficit to win in overtime in a Foothill Conference Northern Division game at Cerro Coso.

The teams were tied, 83-83, after regulation, but Antelope Valley (23-4, 4-0) scored the first five points in overtime.

Valley 68, Canyons 58--Leon Brisport had 17 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Monarchs (18-9, 4-1) in a WSC Southern Division game at Canyons.

Tyreese Basey added 15 points for Valley.

Kevin King led Canyons (12-15, 2-3) with 22 points.

Glendale 76, Bakersfield 71--Ryan Sylva scored 20 points and Juan Corleto added 20 for the Vaqueros (11-15, 3-2) in a WSC Southern Division game at Glendale.

BASEBALL

El Camino 4, Mission 0--Tony Pulido had two hits and Kevin Serr doubled for Mission (3-2) in a nonconference game at El Camino.
