Santa Margarita Ousts Top-Seeded Newport Harbor

Brandon Meeks scored on a cross pass from Matt Moses five minutes into overtime Tuesday to give Santa Margarita an upset victory over top-seeded Newport Harbor in the second round of the Division IV Southern Section boys’ soccer playoffs.
Byron Foss had 12 saves and posted his fifth shutout in the last six games for Santa Margarita (14-7-4). The Eagles play El Modena in the quarterfinals. Newport Harbor finishes the season 10-4-3.
In other Division III playoff games:
Laguna Hills 3, El Modena 1--Abdul Mazid, Kevin McConaughy and Ryan Johnson each scored for Laguna Hills (12-10-5). Laguna Hills will play Santa Margarita in the quarterfinals. El Modena finishes 15-4-3.
Servite 3, Hacienda Heights Wilson 2--Mark Kisting scored the winner with 15 minutes left in the game. Keith Buckley scored the tying goal for Servite (18-5-5). Servite plays Torrance in the quarterfinals at 3 p.m. Thursday.
In Division II:
El Dorado 3, South Torrance 1--Eric Lyons scored two goals, including the winner, in the second half. Ernesto Fonseca scored first for El Dorado (11-4- 4), which plays the winner of the Manhattan Beach Mira Costa/Ventura Buena game.
Mater Dei 3, San Clemente 1--After a 1-1 first half, Nick Marin scored the winner in the 50th minute off an assist by Tony Micheletti for top-seeded Mater Dei.
San Clemente’s Zach Miederoff scored in the 13th minute, but Mike Ugalde tied the score before the end of the first half.
Chris Hulgreen scored the third goal for Mater Dei (21-1-3), which plays Woodbridge in the quarterfinals. San Clemente finishes 15-5-6.
Woodbridge 4, Bellflower St. John Bosco 1--Yigall Kersenbaum scored two goals in a victory for Woodbridge (15-3-7). Goalie Doug Allan had five saves for the Warriors.
In Division IV:
Laguna Beach 2, Estancia 1--Chris Whitworth broke a 1-1 tie, scoring the winning goal for Laguna Beach on a header with 14 minutes left to play. Laguna Beach (16-4-3) took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Spencer Herbert. Jorge Lara tied the score for Estancia (16-5-2) in the 47th minute. Laguna Beach advances to play Lakewood Mayfair.
Lakewood Mayfair 1, Orange Lutheran 0--Eddie Macrae’s penalty kick in the 60th minute of the game ended the season for Orange Lutheran (21-3-2).
