Higher calling: Don’t look for Francisco Sandoval’s name in any junior college distance running results in the near future.

The 1995 graduate of Channel Islands High placed sixth in the state cross-country championships for Moorpark College last November after transferring from UC Davis.

He has enrolled at St. John’s Seminary in Camarillo and plans to become a priest.

“That’s why he came back from Davis,” Moorpark Coach Manny Trevino said. “He never had problems with the coaches up there or anything like that.

“He just decided that he wanted to become a priest, so he came back down here for one final cross-country season before getting started.”
