Brea Olinda Rallies in Ninth to Win

Andy Drapkowski singled in the winning run to cap a three-run seventh inning and give visiting Brea Olinda an 8-7 Orange League victory over Anaheim on Friday.

Eric Arevalo entered the sixth with runners on first and third and no outs, but ended the threat on a double play and a strike out. Arevalo struck out the side in the seventh.

Darren Frank was three for four with three doubles, three runs batted in and two runs scored for Brea Olinda (6-7, 4-1).

In another Orange League game:

Magnolia 9, Western 1--Greg Young (6-0) pitched a six-hitter with five strikeouts for 10th-ranked Magnolia (11-1-1, 4-1). Art Garland was three for four with a double, two RBIs, two runs scored and three stolen bases for the Sentinels.

In the Century League:

Villa Park 6, El Modena 2--Ryan Stamps had two doubles and two RBIs and Brady Jernigan had two hits and two RBIs for the host Villa Park (6-9, 2-3).

In the Empire League:

El Dorado 2, Kennedy 1--Winning pitcher Scott Hazer entered the game in the fourth and gave up an RBI single to Kennedy’s Steve Erwin, but then worked out of a no-outs, bases-loaded jam to preserve second-ranked El Dorado’s lead.

In the Garden Grove League:

Bolsa Grande 6, Santiago 5--Trailing in the sixth inning, 4-3, Hector Ortega hit a two-run triple then scored on a passed ball to give the visiting Matadors (13-4, 3-1) a two-run lead. Gus De Leon pitched the seventh inning, giving up a home run to Carlos Ramirez, to earn his third save.

In the Golden West League:

Ocean View 6, Saddleback 1--Jason Martini pitched a two-hitter for Ocean View (7-9, 2-3). Bobby Mayorga was two for two with two walks and scored twice for Ocean View. Dan Kehr had the only extra-base hit for Ocean View with a two-run double in the third.

Servite 9, Westminster 1--Jim Munroe (6-0) pitched a two-hitter with five strikeouts for sixth-ranked Servite (14-2, 5-0). Ryan Brown went two for four with one RBI and one run scored for Servite.

In the Olympic League:

Calvary Chapel 5, Orange Lutheran 3 (9 innings)--Randy Blood scored on a fielder’s choice and Jon Smith scored on a Dan Murrietta single in the top of the ninth inning for Calvary Chapel (6-8, 4-1). Chad Sterbens was three for four with two doubles for the Eagles. Brad Vieselmeyer was two for four with a home run and three RBIs for Orange Lutheran (5-9, 2-3).

Whittier Christian 9, Ontario Christian 4--Steve Varela was three for three with a double and three RBIs for Whittier Christian (6-5-1, 3-2). Varela doubled in two runs in the seventh to cap a four-run inning. Chris Coppes had a two-run single in a five-run fifth inning for Whittier Christian.

In the Pacific Coast League:

Laguna Hills 4, Aliso Niguel 3--Ryan Johnson hit a three-run home run in a four-run fifth inning for Laguna Hills (7-7-1, 4-0-1). Skip Schumaker was three for three with a home run and two runs scored for Aliso Niguel (4-1 in league).

In the Sea View League:

Irvine 12, El Toro 6--Junior Jordan Blen was four for four with three RBIs and two runs scored and Chris Davis was two for three with two RBIs for Irvine (9-7, 3-2). Junior Grant Bechtold hit his first home run of the year in the second inning for the Vaqueros. Clemente Bonilla was three for three with a home run and three runs scored for El Toro (7-8-1, 1-3-1).

In the Sunset League:

Huntington Beach 7, Los Alamitos 5--Jeff Lineberger (3-2) pitched a complete game, giving up no earned runs and striking out four for Huntington Beach (8-8, 2-3). Andy Plunkett was two for two with an RBI and a run scored and Ryan Hubbard was two for four with an RBI and three runs scored for the Oilers.

Marina 2, Edison 1--Eric Archer had an RBI double with two outs in the bottom of the fifth for Marina (10-6, 3-2).

Phil Archer reached base on an error and advanced to second on a sacrifice to set up the game winner.

Adam LaFrance (4-1) pitched a five-hitter with three strike outs and two walks for Marina.

In a nonleague game:

Capistrano Valley Christian 2, Loma Linda Academy 1--Thomas Grove (2-0) pitched five scoreless innings in relief, giving up one hit and striking out 10 for Capistrano Valley Christian (3-8).
