Fox Sports West 2 will televise a Northwest Valley Conference baseball game between Chatsworth and Kennedy highs at Cal State Northridge on Thursday.

The game, which starts at 3 p.m., will be telecast on tape delay at 8 p.m. as the first in a series of Southern California high school baseball games televised by Fox.

Right-hander Jon Garland (5-1) is expected to take the mound for Kennedy, two-time defending City Section 4-A Division champion.

Quartz Hill High point guard April Garza has signed a letter of intent with Texas El Paso. The 5-foot-7 senior becomes the third Rebel to receive a scholarship. Forward Sanethia Thomas also is headed to UTEP. Guard Kenya Corley has signed with California.

Taking a break: Sophomore right-hander Justin Wade of Taft High probably is out for the season because of a broken right elbow suffered two weeks ago.

Wade (3-1) pitched three perfect innings in a 6-0 loss to Kennedy on April 1, his last appearance. Taft Coach Rich McKeon said Wade suffered the injury while lifting weights.

Committed: Becky Skyler, a Southern Section Division II swimming finalist the past two seasons for Hart High, has committed to Oregon State.

Skyler has helped the Indians to Foothill League titles each of the past three seasons. She chose the Beavers over UNLV, San Jose State, Arizona State and Iowa.

Making a number: Westlake High made its first appearance this season in the Southern Section boys’ volleyball poll, checking in at No. 5 in Division II. The Warriors took the spot of Newbury Park, which fell to No. 7.

The Division I rankings remained the same, with Royal at No. 2, Thousand Oaks at No. 8 and Quartz Hill at No. 10.

In Division IV, Campbell Hall is No. 7, Harvard-Westlake No. 4 and Providence No. 9.

Baxter to Northridge: Royal High setter John Baxter has accepted a partial scholarship to Cal State Northridge.

The 6-foot-4 Baxter was an All-Marmonte League selection the past two seasons and All-Southern Section Division I last year.

Speaking out: Pepperdine basketball Coach Lorenzo Romar will be the featured speaker at the Ventura County Hall of Fame Induction and Awards banquet, June 21 in Ventura.

Romar, 38, has coached the Waves for one season after four years as an assistant at UCLA.
