Wichita State Pounds Long Beach
Wichita State, down by a run, scored 11 runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to defeat 17th-ranked Long Beach State, 14-3, in a nonconference baseball game Tuesday at Wichita State.
Long Beach State (27-17) loaded the bases after Chuck Lopez brought them to within one, 2-3, with a home run in the top of the eighth, but Paul Day (Mission Viejo) hit into a inning-ending double play.
Jeff Ryan homered twice for 13th-ranked Wichita State (35-9), including a grand slam in the eighth.
In the Golden State Athletic Conference baseball:
Concordia 12, Southern California College 8--Ben Kindreich led four other Eagles with a three-hit day, hitting two triples to set a school record for triples in a season with 10.
In the Big West Conference Tournament women’s golf:
Long Beach State finishes fourth--Danielle Skinner led the 49ers with a ninth-place tie after rounds of 87, 77, and 81 on the par 72 University of Idaho Golf Course at Moscow.
New Mexico State won the championship with a 55-stroke advantage over runner-up North Texas.
