Saugus High pitcher Nicole Giordano is the Foothill League player of the year after leading the Centurions to a fourth consecutive league title and a second consecutive berth in the Southern Section Division II semifinals.

Giordano, a senior, was 25-6 with a 0.48 earned-run average. As the team’s leadoff hitter, she finished with a .552 average, 58 hits and 45 runs, all career highs. She set school records for hits and runs in a season, and she stole 50 bases in 52 attempts--hitting the 50 steals plateau for the second year in a row.

Despite Calabasas’ third-place finish in the Frontier League, Coyote catcher Sara Hall was named most valuable player.

Hall, a freshman, batted .435 with 18 runs batted in and 16 stolen bases. She also threw out 19 of 23 runners attempting to steal.

Kennedy High senior right-hander Sandra Durazo was named most valuable player in the North Valley League.

She pitched every inning for the Golden Cougars (21-5), posting a 0.45 earned-run average with 76 hits, 23 walks and 306 strikeouts in 187 2/3 innings.
