Grant to Assist Santa Paula Teen Center

The Boys & Girls Club of Santa Paula has received a $3,000 grant from the Faria Family Foundation. The grant will be used to support Club U.N.O. (Ultimate Night Out), a teen center offering sports activities, dances and field trips for members ages 13-18.

Scouts Present Awards to Adult Volunteers * Six Ventura County residents were honored by the Boy Scouts of America-Ventura County Council with the Silver Beaver Award, the council’s highest award for adult volunteers. Honorees were Jeri Kerney of Simi Valley, Clarence Odle Sr. and Elizabeth Ann Odle of Thousand Oaks, Donald Steward of Oxnard, Cheryl Kistler of Camarillo and William Boetticher of Camarillo.

Police Award Scholarship to Golfers * The Ventura Police Officers Assn. awarded a $250 Michael Davis Memorial Scholarship to golf team members at three Ventura high schools. The winners were Aaron Freyschlag (Ventura High School), William Waters (Bueana High School) and Joey Tovias (St. Bonaventure High School).

The award honors student athletes who exhibit “good sportsmanship, inspiration and leadership qualities.” Michael Davis was a Ventura police officer for 17 years before retirement due to heart problems. Davis, a longtime golf enthusiast, died this spring.

Cal Lutheran Honors 2 Instructors * Paul Hanson, associate professor of history, and Michael Arndt, associate professor of drama, at Cal Lutheran University received the President’s Excellence in Teaching Award. The award was created by CLU President Luther S. Luedtke in 1995 to recognize teachers who are held in high esteem by their peers, students and the university community.
