Kung Has 2-Stroke Lead After 2 Rounds

Fountain Valley’s Candie Kung shot a second-round 74 Wednesday at Aviara Golf Club in Carlsbad to take a two-stroke lead over Blair O’Neal of Tempe, Ariz., in the American Junior Golf Assn. event.

Kung, who has three top-five AJGA finishes this year but no victories, has a 36-hole 145. Yon Yim of Irvine trails by three shots entering today’s final round.

In the boys’ division, David Oh of Cerritos and John Ray Leary of Culver City are tied at two-under 142. Leary, who tied a course record with a seven-under 65 Tuesday, shot 77 Wednesday. Nate Blauer of Trabuco Canyon trails by eight, Tom Osseck of Mission Viejo is 10 back.

The Zodiac signed former Galaxy midfielder Brad Wilson, who also played at El Toro High. Wilson played for the Galaxy two seasons before being placed on waivers July 1. He played at Irvine Valley, St. Louis University and Cal State Fullerton.
