Doesn’t He Know Tuition for College Is Soaring?
It’s certainly commendable that, after his divorce, Matt Williams wanted to play ball in Phoenix to be near his children. But the article [Dec. 2] states “he wanted to be close to his children so much that he is forfeiting $2.5 million of his 1998 salary . . . ,” as if going from $7 million a year to $4.5 million is some kind of sacrifice for his kids. Please spare us working stiffs this kind of heart-wrenching sob story.
