Reseda Cleaning Up Act in Soccer

Share

Strange but true: the Reseda High boys’ soccer team played an entire game Tuesday without drawing a single card or ejection from the referee.

The Regents downed Grant, 4-0, in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game at Reseda, displaying similar skills but an entirely different temperament from their predecessors of the previous three seasons.

Whereas those teams mixed an abundance of tantrums and goals, this season’s Regents (3-0) kept their mouths shut and picked Grant (1-2-3) apart with quick, short passes and a relentless attack.

“The attitudes are good this year; we’re going to give ourselves a better name,” midfielder Carlos Morales said.

Allofs Lima’s first varsity goal in the second minute was all the scoring Reseda needed. But Oscar Sims knocked in a five-yard shot in the 30th minute and Rocky Monzon added two second-half goals.

Last season, the Regents were seeded No. 2 in the City Section playoffs before emotionally self-destructing in a second-round upset loss. Tuesday, Coach Julio Castillo forecast better things for the months ahead.

“We tell them every day about defense, discipline and dedication,” he said. “So far, it’s working.”
