Grant Steals Another Victory to Earn Shot at Championship

Angela Terry scored 20 points and Nakeisha Perkins added 18 points and had 10 blocks for the Grant High girls’ basketball team, which overpowered Eagle Rock, 56-38, in a semifinal game Tuesday at the San Fernando tournament.

Grant (7-1) will play Hamilton in the championship game tonight at 7 at San Fernando High.

“The key to our offense is good defense,” Grant Coach Steve Brumwell said. “We like to start our fast break with a block or a steal, because usually that leads to easy baskets.”

The Lancers led from the start tas Natalie Gabor and Terry each had five steals. Grant stole the ball 17 times, three below its season average.

Hamilton 38, Marshall 36--Sirushi Dermirchyan scored 18 points for the Barristers (4-5), but missed the second and third of three free throws with nine seconds left.

Cleveland 63, Poly 37--Lashanda Smiley scored 27 points for the Cavaliers (6-2) in a consolation semifinal game.

Joan Ov and Mishawn Simms each added 10 points for Cleveland, which outscored the Parrots, 20-5, in the third quarter.

Cleveland plays Bravo in the consolation final today at 5:30 p.m.

Bravo 39, San Fernando 37--Patricia Njuwaku scored 11 points, including the game-winning layup with 30 seconds remaining, for the Knights (2-4).
