Keller to Coach Girls’ Volleyball at Laguna Hills

Patricia Keller has been hired to coach girls’ volleyball at Laguna Hills High, girls’ Athletic Director John Stonebarger announced.

Keller, who is on the Women’s Professional Volleyball Assn. beach tour, replaces Renn Amstead, who resigned for personal reasons after guiding the team nine seasons.

Keller previously coached lower-level volleyball for University High.

Doug Grove has been named boys’ basketball coach at Brethren Christian. Grove coached the Brethren Christian junior varsity last season.

Todd Gelatka of Trabuco Hills High was named to the 18-member USA Baseball team that will play in the World Youth (16-and-under) championships, July 12-20, in Taipei, Taiwan.

Gelatka, 15, pitched and played second base for Trabuco Hills. He pitched the school’s first no-hitter in his first varsity start against Orange.

Tom Roman pitched a two-hitter, striking out seven, to lead Westminster to a 2-1 victory over Carson in the L.A. Watts Summer Games’ championship game Sunday. Roman was named most valuable player for the tournament.

The Servite Summer Cage Classic begins July 11 with four games at Servite High and four at Loara High. The tournament concludes with a championship game 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Servite.

Friday’s first-round games:

At Loara: 3 p.m.--Troy vs. Chaminade; 4:30--South Torrance vs. Long Beach Poly; 6--San Fernando vs. Santa Monica; 7:30--Sana Margarita vs. Pomona.

At Servite: 3 p.m.--Loara vs. La Canada; 4:30--Laguna Hills vs. Helix; 6--Capistrano Valley vs. Inglewood Morningside; 7:30--Servite vs. Santa Ana Valley.
