The 18th Katin Team Challenge, which begins today just south of the pier in Huntington Beach, is considered one of the mainland’s oldest surfing events.

Four-member teams will compete head to head, rotating all four members within a one-hour period. After catching three waves, each surfer must tag a teammate to take his place.

This year, Lisa Andersen, the defending women’s world champion, will compete on a men’s team. Competition concludes Sunday.
